GARMENT CREATION PROCESS
INSPIRATION PAGE
I was blessed with the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy and create a garment of my choosing . Originally I was inspired by the famous Emilio Pucci's previous designs and new 2017 Resort Wear Collection. I gravitated toward Pucci because of its rich heritage in Italian culture. The brand began in Italy and it continues to embody energy, fun, modern, and historic Italian heritage. I wanted to include those elements in my garment as well.
FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS
After finding my inspiration I started sketching any design that came to my head in my sketchbook. I embraced the trends and designs that were already created but I wanted to create something unique. I wanted to change standard silhouettes and hem lines of garments. I started with tons of rough pencil and paper sketchs. Then I finalized the five garments seen above. I colored them with marker and outlined them in ink.
PATTERN CREATION PROCESS
Draping is an exciting form of pattern drafting for me. It gives me the ability to be creative and create whatever I like. I picked draping to create this patten because the garment had multiple design elements and draping would accommodate that easily. I draped a piece of fabric on the dress form and I included a front and back dart. After I completed that I drew the desired look on my bodice and attached the gathered pieces to the breast plates and the skirt. Lastly, I added seam allowances.
FITTING THE MUSLIN SAMPLE
Assembling the muslin sample wasn't as complicated as I thought it was going to be initially. Throughout the process I changed the skirt pattern to gain a dramatic A-Line shaped affect. When I fitted it to my model I had to add additional darts to the back and front stomach area to prevent back gaping. I also added a dart in the center front seam along the neckline to eliminate gaping. The hem of the garment was asymmetrical and I decided to make it parallel to the ground. Overall I loved my work and its creative flare.

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
The construction of the garment in the cotton satin textile was extremely hard to use. It is a stiff textile that is difficult to manipulate. The biggest challenge I faced was fitting the gathered breast plates in the proper place. But, after instructed I came to the conclusion that everything had to be extremely precise. After I measured everything I finished my garment with no trouble. When altering the hem of the garment I noticed that the construction of the skirt created a natural layering affect that was absolutely beautiful. It also added a unique design element. I decided to keep it that way. After I assembled the garment with the machine I had to hand sew the facing to the outer shell of the garment to finish it. I added an invisible zipper to the center back. Once finished, I pressed it.
FINAL GARMENT CRITIQUE
My garment is filled with personality and wit. It screams energy and positivity. This is a strong piece conceptual, visually, and mechanically. My piece is ascetically pleasing while pushing the notions of construction as we know it today. My garment is flirty, yet youthfully. It is a show stopper technically and physically.
